On April 4th, the meeting of Executive Council of the University Alliance of the Silk Road (the Alliance, hereinafter) was convened in Xi’an Jiaotong University. The eighteen universities (or university groups) as follow became the initial council members of the Alliance: Xi'an Jiaotong University, Harbin Institute of Technology, Washington University in St. Louis, Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Bauman Moscow State Technical University, Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, Nazarbayev University, Polytechnic University of Milan, Moscow Power Engineering Institute, University of Liverpool, University of New South Wales, Pakistan National University of Science and Technology, Pusan National University, Centrale Supélec (including five universities), Kyrgyz State University of Construction and Transport and Architecture, Benha University, Sabanci University and Technical University of Berlin.
Based on the constitution of the Alliance, Xi’an Jiaotong University has been elected to be the president of council of the Alliance. Harbin Institute of Technology, Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Bauman Moscow State Technical University, Al-Farabi Kazakh National University and Polytechnic University of Milan have been elected to be the vice presidents of the council of the Alliance. Besides, The University of Hong Kong, City University of Hong Kong and Chinese University of Hong Kong have been joined in the Alliance at the conference. The Alliance has expanded to 128 universities across 31 countries and regions hitherto.
The Xi’an Consensus was adopted and released at the conference. The Western China Science and Innovation Bay provided the venue for the Alliance. Qizheng Pharmaceutical provided 1 million yuan’s Special Structural Fund for purpose of the Alliance construction. Also, Xi’an Jiaotong University will offer 100 Special Scholarships of the Silk Road for the Alliance.
