In April 2018, the two-week “2018 EHV Transmission and Smart Grid Special Workshop” in the Belt and Road Advanced Professional Development Program, the first demonstration project of the Silk Road Engineering Institute was organized in Xi’an Jiaotong University. 30 students from 12 countries and regions along the "Belt and Road" including Indonesia, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, Nepal, Pakistan, the Philippines, Poland, Russia and Thailand attended the welcoming ceremony.
On April 20, the welcome ceremony of the Workshop was held in XJTU. Wang Shuguo, President of XJTU, Wen Xiaozhong, Dean of Faculty of Engineering of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Wang Lixin, the representative from State Grid and State Grid of China Technology College and Zheng Zuying, and the representative from Hongkong Electric Company Limited attended the ceremony and delivered speeches. Vice President Xi Guang from XJTU presided over the ceremony.
In May 2017, Xi'an Jiaotong University and the Hong Kong Polytechnic University officially established the Silk Road Engineering Institute jointly. The Silk Road Engineering Institute is a cooperation project under the framework of the UASR aiming to strengthen the education cooperation of universities, promote the research and development of countries and regions along the UASR, and cultivate international talents with characteristics of the Silk Road.
In September 2017, XJTU, the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Hongkong Electric Company Limited and State Grid of China Technology College signed the Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperating in Training the Power Energy Senior Management Personnel of Countries and Regions Along " The Belt and Road", to train the high-end management talents for countries and regions along the "Belt and Road" by utilizing the advantages and resources of the four parties.
The seminar of "The Belt and Road" Power Energy Executive Talent Development Program would last for two weeks, and 30 students would visit Beijing, Jinan, Xi'an and Hong Kong for study, tolearn the advanced design, technology and management by communicating with experts from various regions in the EHV transmission and smart grid workshops.
