On January 17, the University Alliance of the Silk Road Energy Sub-alliance launched by the School of Energy and Power Engineering of Xi'an Jiaotong University was formally established. Representatives from 59 sub-alliance universities from 20 countries attended the inaugural meeting. Xi'an Jiaotong University hosted the first council meeting of the Alliance and was elected to be the executive council university. Tao Wenquan, AcademicianoftheChineseAcademyofSciencesattended the meeting. The meeting was presided over by Yan Junjie, Dean of the School of Energy and Power Engineering.
10 executive council universities was elected, such as the University of Khalifa (United Arab Emirates), Nazarbayev University (Kazakhstan), Shanghai Jiaotong University (China), Tsinghua University (China), University of Lisbon (Portugal), University of Pisa (Italy), University of Zagreb (Croatia), University of Strathclyde (UK), Xi'an Jiaotong University (China), and Zhejiang University (China). The declaration of the University Alliance of the Silk Road Energy Sub-alliance was adopted unanimously.
The declaration pointed out that energy is the blood of modern society, and human progress and world development benefit from traditional energy and renewable energy. In the new century, the energy system faces new challenges. Environmental issues caused by energy and traditional fossil fuels are no longer short-term local problems. It is imperative for countries around the world to work together to increase energy diversity, promote low-carbon social development and develop open energy policies.
Member universities of the sub-alliance will support the relevant disciplines in physical space, human resources and capital, and ensure the smooth cooperation of the sub-alliance member units. In the meeting, Xi'an Jiaotong University signed a letter of intent with the 58 sub-alliance members respectively. The sub-alliance members aim to create a cooperative education platform for world-class professional research institutions in the field of energy, power and environment with the silk road spirit of "peaceful cooperation, openness and inclusiveness, mutual learning and mutual benefit and win-win ", strengthen substantive cooperation in scientific research, students faculty exchanges, joint training talent cultivation, resources sharing and promote the development in the fields of energy, power and environment.
