Innovations in Hospitality and Tourism Education: SHTM and Hotel ICON organized by the Tourism Sub-Alliance of UASR, will be held online on 1st April 2021.

The webinar will cover the best practices of the School of Hotel and Tourism Management of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (SHTM) in the development of academic programmes and how Hotel ICON, the School's groundbreaking teaching and research hotel, contributes to innovations in hospitality and tourism education. This webinar will also share the most recent project experience of the collaborations with Chengdu Gingko College of Hospitality Management, to showcase of how to combine the research proweness of SHTM and professional practices of Hotel ICON to develop and implement the concept of teaching hotel. Details are as follows:

The Hong Kong Polytechnic University

Tony joined The Hong Kong Polytechnic University as Director of Industry Partnerships in School of Hotel and Tourism Management (SHTM) in 2002, looking after consultancy, executive education, industry relations, and student internships. Tony obtained his PhD degree in 2009 and has become a faculty member at SHTM since then. He has taught subjects including Aviation Policy (Bachelor level), Managing Marketing in Hotel and Tourism Industry (Master level), and Hotel & Tourism Management Education (Doctoral level). Tony has been appointed as Professor of Practice since 2016.

Tony has published more than 60 journal articles, book chapters and conference papers in the field of hospitality and tourism management. Most papers are based on practical research providing a wealth of industry insights. He has been actively involved in the development of the University’s teaching and research hotel, Hotel ICON, responsible for the integration of learning activities in the hotel.

Tony has served consultancy projects in Hong Kong, Mainland China, and overseas in recent years such as:

· Zhengzhou Haima Group Hotel Projects

· Nanjing Meiquan Bed & Breakfast Business Development

· Business Case for Jamaican Centre of Tourism Innovation

· Wellness Tourism Study in South Australia

Tony was previously the General Manager, Marketing Communications, of the Hong Kong Tourism Board. Before joining Hong Kong Tourism Board, Tony had worked for Ogilvy & Mather Advertising for 18 years – in Hong Kong, Beijing, Shanghai, and Sydney.

Tony is a graduate of the University of Hong Kong with a Bachelor degree in Social Sciences. He has an MBA degree from Macquarie University and PhD degree in Tourism Management from Southern Cross University, both in Australia.

Tony is appointed by the Hong Kong SAR Government as an Independent Director in the Board of Directors at the Travel Industry Council of Hong Kong (2012-2022), also serving as member of the Council’s Compliance Committee. He is a director of Foodlink Foundation Limited.
