Academic Webinar “SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT OF SOCIETY THROUGH SOCIAL TOURISM” open for registration

Social tourism has become the first step in introducing a special contingent of people to travel. Social tourism in Kazakhstan has received its development relatively recently, although this type of tourism has existed in the world for about half a century.

The webinar will cover the best practices of the Social tourism worldwide, the view from Kazakhstan, Russia, Hungary and Hong Kong, professors from these countries will share with us about the overview, principles, and current state of Social Tourism.

This webinar will also share the most recent project experience of the Social tourism notion development in Kazakhstan.

Daniyel Serzhanuly

Head of Tourism Product Development

Kazakh Tourism National Company, Kazakhstan

A graduate of the Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, Almaty (2011) and a Master of Science in Tourism Management (2013), he started his career in 2014 as a tourism manager in the organization of the biggest MICE event in Kazakhstan – Astana Expo 2017 International Exhibition. Daniyel worked as a senior manager for promotion and organization of the successful “Astana EXPO 2017” event with 4 mln. visitors, from 115 countries and 22 international associations. He worked on attracting domestic and international tourists to the expo, implementing “EXPO-2017 Official Travel Operators” and “Recommended by EXPO” programs, as well as promoting tourism in Kazakhstan both locally and abroad.

After successful EXPO Daniyel joined Kazakh Tourism National Company in 2017 as a senior marketing manager. In 2019 he was appointed as a Head of MICE department. Kazakh Tourism became the member of ICCA with an idea of developing MICE industry in the country and won 5 bids of international associations in one year.

Since last year, he started working as a Head of the Tourism Product Department at Kazakh Tourism. During pandemic, his team was in charge of tourism recovery measures proposed by the business community.

In Hong Kong Polytechnic University Dr. Honggen Xiao facilitates learning at the undergraduate, Master’s and doctoral levels in subject areas such as qualitative research, leisure and society, tourism and culture, China tourism, critical tourism studies, and theories and concepts in tourism. He has extensive research interests and has been developing a focused area of studies on knowledge development in tourism, on the fronts of theoretical advancement, theory-practice relationships, social science communication across cultures and languages, and hospitality and tourism education. Amongst his many community services, Dr Xiao is Co-Editor-in-Chief of Encyclopedia of Tourism (Springer), Managing Editor of Journal of China Tourism Research (Routledge), and Coordinator of UNWTO/PATA Forum on Tourism Trends and Outlook.

Svetlana G. Stenyushkina

PhD in Sociology, Associate Professor of the Department of International tourism and hospitality business, the Head of the Education Quality office at Belgorod State National Research University (Russia, Belgorod)

In 2013 Svetlana graduated from Belgorod State University with a degree in Business Economics and Management (Tourism management and hospitality). In 2015 she graduated from the master's degree program "Tourism". In 2019 she defended her PhD thesis on "Risk Management in Tourism" and received a PhD in Sociology.

Svetlana Stenyushkina has published more than 40 journal articles, book chapters and conference papers in the field of tourism management and hospitality, including articles posted on Scopus and Web of Science databases. Most papers are based on practical research providing a wealth of industry insights.

Courses taught: Tourism Marketing, Risk Management in Tourism, Consumer Service Security.

Prof. Dr. habil. Lóránt Dénes DÁVID

Prof. Dr. Lóránt Dénes Dávid is an extremely versatile Hungarian scholar. Born in 1968, he graduated in History, Geography, European Studies and as a Geography-English Technical Translator. Later he obtained postgraduate qualifications in Tourism and Hospitality. He was a scholarship holder in Oxford, Cambridge, London and Amsterdam. His native language is Hungarian, and he speaks English and some Russian. After earning his PhD degree from the University of Debrecen, Hungary in Geography (Earth Sciences) in 2001, he completed the habilitation processes in 3 disciplines (Management and Business Administration, Environmental Sciences, and Regional Sciences. He has become an internationally recognized researcher and professor in the fields of geography and tourism. His extensive research has resulted in many prestigious journal articles, studies, papers and books. His work is available in the best-known databases (SCOPUS, Thomson Reuters/Clarivate Analytics). Furthermore, he has developed an exemplary international professional cooperation network, has served as a guest professor at many universities in Europe and overseas, and has also been an active promoter of Hungary's oriental relations. As an awardee of the Jean Monnet Professorship, he designed and implemented a major educational program in tourism and regional development. Moreover, he has been very active in editing scholarly journals both in Hungary and abroad. He is an ordinary member of the European Academy of Sciences and Arts (EASA). He has the permanent full-professor post in the Hungarian University of Agriculture and Life Scienes (Department of Sustainable Tourism) (Gödöllő, Hungary). His research fields: tourism, hospitality, geography, earth sciences, environmentalism, regional studies and sciences, sustainable development.

Assipova Zhanna

PhD, acting associate professor

Al-Farabi Kazakh National University

Zhanna Assipova graduated from Al-Farabi Kazakh National University in 2010 with a bachelor's degree in Tourism. In 2015, she was awarded a PhD degree in the specialty 6D050900-Geography.

Since 2016 has been working as a researcher at the Al-Farabi KazNU Science and Technology Park, participated in the project “Conceptual model of rural areas activation of the Republic of Kazakhstan through the development of agrotourism”. In the period April 2017-July 2018, also worked as an analyst (part-time) in the project "Research of competitiveness and prospects of development of the tourism sector in Almaty" organized by “TIC Visit Almaty” LLP under the Department of Tourism and External Relations of Almaty.

She has completed research internships at the University of Surrey, UK, in 2012, and at the University of Janos Kodolanyi, Hungary, in 2016.

Her research interests cover the problems of the development of social tourism, its history and its impact on various aspects of the life of citizens, in the world and in the post-Soviet space. The main results of scientific activity are published in 12 articles and reported at international and Russian scientific and practical conferences: "Critical Tourism Studies-5 "(Sarajevo, 2013)," Critical tourism studies - 7 " (Barcelona, 2017) etc.
